This foundational course introduces students to the nature, scope, and significance of the tourism industry. It explores the historical development of tourism, key concepts and terminologies, components of the tourism system (transportation, accommodation, attractions, and intermediaries), and the interrelationships among these sectors. The course also examines the social, cultural, environmental, and economic impacts of tourism both globally and locally. Emphasis is placed on understanding tourism as a dynamic and multifaceted industry that plays a vital role in national development. Students will be encouraged to develop a global perspective and ethical appreciation of tourism practices.
